A Yukon man convicted in the vicious rape of a Whitehorse woman in 2001 is back in police custody after he turned himself in to RCMP in North Vancouver, B.C.

Marcellus Jacob was at large after he walked away from a Vancouver-area halfway house on Sunday afternoon.

The 27-year-old former Whitehorse resident was released to the halfway house in May after serving most of a seven-year prison sentence for breaking and entering and sexual assault.

Jacob was previously released on parole in fall 2006, but his parole was revoked after he failed to return to a halfway house. He turned himself in to police four days later, in November 2006.

Police say Jacob has a history of sexual violence toward adult and teenage females, as well as a record of violent and property-related offences.

After sentencing Jacob in 2002, Yukon territorial court Judge Barry Stuart called Jacob a “ticking bomb” and said he had a “propensity for violence and for sexually inappropriate behaviour.”
